Less expensive than an eye gaze system, but just as good, is a head-tracking device that translates the natural movements of a user’s head into directly proportional movements of the computer mouse pointer. A small camera mounted on the computer wirelessly tracks a small dot that you place on your forehead, glasses, or the rim of a hat. Most devices plug directly into a USB port, just like a mouse, and allow you to point wherever you want on the screen. Two popular choices are the TrackerPro from Madentec and the HeadMouse Extreme from Origin Instruments.

To perform a mouse click with your head, however, you’ll need another configuration, such as software that lets you dwell on one spot to signal a click. For instance, you can use Madentec’s TrackerPro headpointer and its MagicCursor 2000 dwell-clicking software. Then add ScreenDoors 2000, a software program for Windows that lets you select and type words from an onscreen keyboard.
